The agency is responsible for providing data and information products that help to stimulate and inform improvements in clinical care and inform Victorians about safety and quality of care in their local area.

VAHI was created in 2017 as part of Victorian Government reforms to overhaul quality and safety across Victoria’s healthcare system.

Working in partnership with Safer Care Victoria, the agency develops priority measures for safety and quality that will inform sustained efforts to improve Victoria’ s health system and patient outcomes.

We produce regular reports for health services to monitor safety and performance by looking at data such as rates of potentially preventable infections and readmissions. Health services are able to see their performance against targets and compare it to similar health services. This increased access to information will stimulate quality and safety improvements and increase transparency and accountability. It will also inform the Victorian community, providing patients and carers with meaningful and useful information about the services and care in their local area.

You can read more about the agency on the Better Safer Care website.
