While the legislation does not come into effect until June 2019, the Board will spend its first 12 months establishing clear oversight and ensuring the sector is prepared, including:
how cases will be reviewed and any issues referred procedures for mandatory reporting by health practitioners consultation with key clinical, consumer and professional groups to develop information guidelines, protocols and training. The inaugural Board has been appointed to a six-year term to allow them to review the operation of the Act after five years.
The Board will be supported by Safer Care Victoria, the state’s lead agency for improving quality and safety in healthcare.
