Information about permitted workplaces in the education and training sector operating under current restrictions.

In permitted workplaces:

  • If you can work from home, you must work from home.
  • If your employees can work from home, you must support them to work from home.
  • You need a permit to leave home for work and the permit requires your employer to state you cannot work remotely.
  • Any onsite functions must operate under the minimum obligations to reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) including have a COVIDSafe Plan in place.

Schools for all students in regional Victoria. Schools for students in Prep to Year 6, students undertaking the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), Vocational Education and Training (VET), Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL), Year 11 and Year 12 International Baccalaureate, international academic assessments including the International Mathematical Olympiad and children of permitted workers or who are identified as vulnerable in metropolitan Melbourne

Tertiary facilities servicing the following occupations and activities are permitted to be delivered on-site, only where remote delivery is not possible:

  • Final-year higher education students (i.e. in TEQSA-regulated courses), who do not have alternative options to complete their study by end January 2021
  • Apprentices in their final year of training whose training contracts end by 31 December 2020
  • Training and assessment for infection control, high-risk work licences and high risk work credentials and construction induction (white card), that ensure workplace and public safety in permitted work premises or for permitted workers 
  • Study for final year pre-service early childhood and school teachers
  • First aid training where required for COVID response
  • Professional LifeSaver training (exclusive use of pool facility for lifesaver training)
  • Study for health care workers
  • Apprentices in approved construction
  • Clinical health and biomedical science
  • Commercial cleaning
  • Aged and disability care
  • Mandatory assessments for VCE and VCAL students
  • Police Academy
  • Defence and national security agencies
  • Activity that relates to medical or other research that requires on-site attendance, care for animals, agriculture or horticulture
