Victoria has recorded four new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, with the total number of cases now at 20,319.

There has been one new death from COVID-19 reported since yesterday, a man aged in his 90s.  To date, 817 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.

Of today’s four new cases, one is a case who previously tested positive in July and further investigation is under way.  Three of today’s cases are from the same household in Melbourne’s north.

Three of today’s new cases are in the local government area of Hume and the fourth case is in Moonee Valley.

A testing centre has been established in Kilmore following yesterday’s announcement of a recent case reported in a staff member at Kemp’s Bakery in Kilmore. 

The staff member lives in metropolitan Melbourne and worked at the bakery between 1 October and 11 October.  Investigations have now established this case worked while infectious on 8 and 9 October - these were night shifts when the bakery was not open to the public.  

Kemp’s Bakery in Kilmore and Wandong have been closed for cleaning. All staff have been tested and are negative and those identified as close contacts of the staff member will quarantine for 14 days.

Anyone in Kilmore or Wandong should get tested if they have any symptoms, however mild and isolate until they receive their results. Testing is available at the Kilmore District Hospital from 10am to 5pm today and from 9am to 5pm on Tuesday.

The Department of Health and Human Services is continuing to work with local health services to contain an outbreak of coronavirus in Shepparton. There are three cases in Shepparton, which is no change from yesterday.

A further 227 tests were taken in Shepparton yesterday, taking the total number of tests in Shepparton and the surrounding region to 6323.

If you have visited any of the high-risk locations below during the dates and times identified you should get tested and quarantine for 14 days. Even if you don’t have any symptoms or only mild symptoms.

If you have visited any of the locations of concern below you should get tested and stay at home while you await your results.  In addition, people should be vigilant for symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested again at the first sign of any symptoms.

Testing in Shepparton and the region is available today at:

  • Acute Respiratory Clinic at Graham Street, Shepparton is open seven days per week from 8:00am to 5:30pm.  People who have symptoms are encouraged to this location.  
  • Drive through testing at Shepparton Sports Precinct, corner of Numurkah Road and Brauman Street, Shepparton from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
  • Victoria Park Lake, Shepparton from 2:00pm to 6:00pm
  • Testing is available at Shepparton Respiratory Clinic - 172 Welsford Street, Shepparton by appointment

The average number of cases diagnosed in the last 14 days (5 Oct 2020 – 18 Oct 2020) for metropolitan Melbourne is 7.2 and regional Victoria is 0.5. The rolling daily average case number is calculated by averaging out the number of new cases over the past 14 days.

The total number of cases from an unknown source in the last 14 days (3 Oct 2020 – 16 Oct 2020) is 15 for metropolitan Melbourne and zero from regional Victoria. The 14-day period for the source of acquisition data ends 48 hours earlier than the 14-day period used to calculate the new case average due to the time required to fully investigate a case and assign its mode of acquisition.

The 15 mystery cases in the last 14 days (3 Oct 2020 – 16 Oct 2020) are in the following postcodes, 3015, 3024, 3025 (two cases), 3037, 3047, 3073 (two cases), 3081, 3128, 3130, 3152, 3173, 3175 and 3184.

In Victoria at the current time:

  • 4278 cases may indicate community transmission – an increase of one since yesterday 
  • 136 cases are currently active in Victoria
  • 12 cases of coronavirus are in hospital, there are no cases in intensive care
  • 19,299 people have recovered from the virus
  • A total of 2,955,149 test results have been received which is an increase of 10,793 since yesterday.

Of the 136 current active cases in Victoria:

  • 129 are in metropolitan Melbourne under the Second Step of our roadmap
  • Seven are in regional local government areas under the Third Step of our roadmap.  There are four active cases in Mitchell Shire and three in Greater Shepparton.

Of the total cases:

  • 18,922 cases are from metropolitan Melbourne, while 1199 are from regional Victoria
  • Total cases include 9691 men and 10,615 women
  • Total number of healthcare workers: 3599, active cases: 11
  • There are 11 active cases relating to aged care facilities

Active aged care outbreaks with the highest active case numbers are as follows: 

  • 4 active cases are currently linked to Uniting Age Well Preston (total cases: 5)
  • 3 active cases are currently linked to Estia Aged Care Facility Keilor (total cases: 52)

Non-aged care outbreaks with the highest number of active cases include:

  • 13 active cases are currently linked to the north metro region community (total cases: 17)
  • 9 active cases are currently linked to the Chadstone Shopping Centre (total cases: 38)
  • 9 active cases are currently linked to the Box Hill Hospital (total cases: 14)
  • 9 cases are linked to the south-eastern community (total cases: 9)
  • 4 active cases are currently linked to the Oddfellows Café in Kilmore (total cases: 6)
  • 4 active cases are currently linked to the Hoppers Crossing community outbreak (total cases: 4)

As public health work is undertaken throughout the day, outbreak totals are likely to change as the public health team identify links between cases and identified outbreaks. Organisation based outbreak totals include contacts as well as employees/residents/staff/students of that location/business.
