The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Victoria is 1,780 with 18 new cases reported yesterday.
The new cases are made up of one linked to an existing outbreak, six detected in returned overseas travellers in hotel quarantine, eight identified through routine testing and three currently under investigation.
There have been no new deaths reported. To date, 19 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.
There have been 192 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Victoria that have been acquired through unknown transmission. There are currently 81 active cases in Victoria.
Currently four people are in hospital, including two patients in intensive care. 1,678 people have recovered.
Of the total 1,780 cases, there have been 1,481 in metropolitan Melbourne and 240 in regional Victoria. The total number of cases is made up of 945 men and 834 women. More than 621,000 tests have been processed to date.
The new case linked to an outbreak is a household contact of a case associated with the Croydon Family Practice outbreak – bringing the total number of cases in this outbreak to five.
One of the new cases attended the Black Lives Matter march but was not infectious at the time. The source of acquisition for this case is unknown, and no links have been identified between this and other cases previously reported as having attended the march. This new case worked at the H&M store at Northland while infectious and the store has been closed while cleaning and other public health actions are undertaken.
Two of the new cases attended childcare facilities for one day while infectious, one being a worker at The Learning Sanctuary Pakenham and a toddler at the Guardian Childcare Centre in South Yarra. Investigation of the sources of acquisition, contact tracing, deep cleaning and other necessary public health actions are being undertaken. Both facilities are currently closed.
A case has also been detected in a staff member at the Victorian Rehabilitation Centre in Glen Waverley. The staff member worked while infectious. The centre has been closed for new admissions while cleaning, contact tracing and other public health actions are undertaken.
“Thanks to Victorians playing their part, staying at home and getting tested, we have made some great progress in slowing the spread of coronavirus,” Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton said.
“However, we are still seeing transmission in households and other settings. It remains critical to practice good hygiene - wash your hands regularly and cough and sneeze into a tissue or your elbow and try to avoid touching your face.
“Stay 1.5 metres away from anyone you don’t live with and avoid crowds, especially indoors. If you can keep working from home – you must keep working from home.
“And if you do feel unwell with any symptoms of coronavirus you should get tested. This includes fever, chills, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose or loss of sense of smell.
“If you attended the Black Lives Matter march in the city on Saturday 6 June there is currently no requirement to quarantine or get tested if you do not have symptoms. However, should you develop any symptoms, no matter how mild, it is critically important that you get tested.”
