Victoria was notified of 334 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. All were locally acquired cases.
There are 2,426 active cases in Victoria – 2,421 locally acquired and five overseas-acquired cases.
There are 127 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria. 33 of these cases are in intensive care, with 21 cases on a ventilator.
Of the cases in hospital yesterday, 90 per cent were not vaccinated and 10 per cent were partially vaccinated. No COVID-19 patients in hospital in Victoria were double-dose vaccinated.
The total number of confirmed cases in Victoria since the beginning of the pandemic is 24,297. One historic case was reclassified.
Sadly, the Department has been notified of the death yesterday of a man aged in his 70s from Coburg who was diagnosed with COVID-19.
This brings the total number of deaths from the current outbreak to four and the total number of deaths in Victoria since the pandemic began to 824.
Directions update
From 11.59 pm last night (Thursday 9 September), coronavirus restrictions have been lifted in regional Victoria, except for Greater Shepparton.
In addition, Victorians who have been residing in a NSW-Victoria cross border community area in NSW for at least the 14 days from Wednesday 25 August to Wednesday 8 September will be able to apply for a new permit exemption category to come home.
Applications for exemptions will be open for seven days from midday today (Friday 10 September), and closing at 6:00pm on Friday 17 September 2021.

Update: Northern Territory declared a Green Zone
The Chief Health Officer has determined that from 12:01am today (Friday 10 September), the Northern Territory Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the City of Darwin, City of Palmerston, Litchfield Council, Wagait Shire, Belyuen Shire, Dundee, Bynoe, Charlotte, Cox Peninsula, Municipality of Katherine including Tindal are now green zones under Victoria’s travel permit system.
When the green zone is in effect, people who have been in these LGAs at any time in the previous 14 days have been in a green zone. Previous orange zone arrivals from these LGAs who are currently in Victoria will become green zone arrivals.
You still need a valid permit, exemption or exception if arriving from a green zone. To apply for a permit, visit Service Victoria. It is an offence to enter Victoria without a valid permit, exemption or exception, with fines of up to $5,452.

Update: Freight and healthcare worker vaccinations
Due to the significant risk that NSW continues to pose to Victoria, we are further tightening border restrictions by adding a requirement to our Specified Worker (Multiple Entry) Permit.
From 23 September, freight and healthcare workers entering Victoria under the Specified Worker (Multiple Entry) Permit must have had at least one vaccination dose before entry.
Evidence can be documentation from the vaccine provider of your first dose or your COVID-19 digital certificate which is accessible through Commonwealth myGov account.
Workers will need to apply for a new permit if their current permit expires after 23 September and confirm that they have received their vaccine dose to be eligible for this permit.
Update: Cross-border Community - Extreme Risk Zone permit
The lifting of the lockdown in regional Victoria (excluding Greater Shepparton) will impact the reasons why someone can obtain a Cross-border Community - Extreme Risk Zone permit to enter or re-enter Victoria.
From 11:59pm 9 September, the work-related permitted reasons for travel as part of the Cross-border Community - Extreme Risk Zone permit are:
- attending authorised work only in Metropolitan Melbourne and Greater Shepparton
- attending paid or voluntary work that is located elsewhere in regional Victoria, or on the NSW-side of the cross-border community area
If you can work from home, you should. When in Victoria, you must observe the restrictions that are in place.
There are no other changes to the permitted reasons for entering or re-entering Victoria for Cross-border Community - Extreme Risk Zone permit holders.
Vaccines
Yesterday was another record day for vaccinations with 39,027 vaccine doses administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services.
The total number of doses administered through these services is 2,757,677.
Victoria now stands at 64.2 per cent of first COVID-19 vaccines administered.
We are now just 169,174 jabs away from our one million doses target in five weeks.
More than 71,000 vaccination bookings were made yesterday.
Over the next seven days, there are more than 10,000 first-dose AstraZeneca appointments available.

Under the current directions, getting vaccinated is not a reason to travel from metropolitan Melbourne and Greater Shepparton (both currently classified as restricted zones) to a non-restricted regional area and vice versa.
All Year 11 and 12 students sitting VCE Unit 3&4 exams can book priority appointments for COVID-19 vaccination until Sunday 19 September. Booking information has been provided directly to eligible families.
New Chief Health Officer directions are now in place requiring residential aged-care facilities to ensure their workers are vaccinated.

Of Victoria’s active cases:
- 347 are aged between 0 and 9
- 386 are aged between 10 and 19
- 606 are aged between 20 and 29
- 418 are aged between 30 and 39.
Around 85 per cent of all active cases in Victoria are under the age of 50.
There are currently 14,113 active primary close contacts in isolation in Victoria.

There may be occasions when the Department is unable to make contact with a business or residential premises before their listing as an exposure site. At all times, we take the decision of when to publish these sites in the interests of public health.
The Department regularly manages exposure sites that it doesn’t publish online, particularly if these sites represent lower-risk exposure, or if they have comprehensive record-keeping and contact-tracing measures, or if they identify small, private locations – including smaller apartment or townhouse complexes.

Yesterday, the number of COVID-19 tests performed in Victoria surpassed 10 million since the start of the pandemic.
42,998 tests were processed in Victoria yesterday.
